I went through a kaleidoscope of emotions reading this book. I was drawn to the plot mostly for the romance and promise of an art-chase mystery. I stayed for the beautiful descriptions of Greece and Greek food (though honestly I wish there was even more). For a while the pacing was good and really making me wish I was on a beach vacation, reading this on a lounge chair. I enjoyed the hunt for the missing painting, though I was hoping for a tad more chase and intrigue. Unfortunately, the underlying theme of child-loss/miscarriage was, well, not so underlying and suddenly becomes IN YOUR FACE. It consumes the book and literally everyone with a uterus in the book has experienced loss. I get that we are supposed to feel the heavy tragedy and the unity the women all share, but it felt a little too forced for me. Like we were being forced to feel sorry for all the characters. It wasn’t organic for me. I’ve experienced loss of pregnancy, so I should have felt sympathetic, right?! But instead I felt annoyed. It felt like an easy ploy to give the characters something to bond over or to strengthen their relationships and I absolutely HATE when authors do this. Readers don’t need trigger gimmicks.

This book is definitely not my usual pick of books, I think someone must have bought it for me at some point or else I probably wouldn't have picked it up. This story focusses heavily on grief and overcoming the loss of a parent, this is a theme that does resonate with me and I thought that element of the story was really well done and relatable. I liked getting to know the characters and their connections as they grew I did feel some of the additions to the storyline just weren't necessary and weren't the sort of topics that could just be lightly touched upon so I didn't enjoy those elements and at times it just felt a little drawn out (again it might just be that its not my usual book type). Overall this read was okay,

I’m in love with this cover and story.
It’s heartbreaking in many ways but also so heartwarming and fulfilling.

A story about grief, reconnect and finding truths that were long buried in another country that might as well feel like a piece of heaven at times.

Sophie tries to discover some parts of her mother’s story that she had no idea about it. And that will take her to a idilic place where she can find pace with herself but also unexpected love.

I took this to Crete with me and I cant think of a more perfect place to read this - I definitely think if I'd have read this in England I'd have been too jealous of the beautiful scene setting to continue reading it!

This was a little heavier than expected and I would definitely check TWs (and will include these in my insta review), as I think this could prove to be a very difficult read for some.

Sophie's mother was an artist, and since passing away Sophie is trying to locate a lost painting. This leads her to visit the island of Methoni, to try and uncover the location of the missing art and learn more about her mother.

I adored Sophie's romance with Theo, and that was definitely one of my favourite aspects.

At times I appreciated SOphie's friendship with Tasha but this could get a bit convaluted at times, and I think some of the correspondence between them could have been ommitted.

While for the most part I did enjoy this, it did feel a little slow and clunky in places, and whilst it left me all warm inside post reading, I'm not really a fan of the direction taken for Sophie and Theo at the end.

Sophie is looking for an escape from her grief. Her Mam died leaving Sophie behind, all alone in the world.

Lyndsey Kinlock was a very famous artist. having an extensive catalogue over the years. A lot of which are in various galleries and some are even done on commission for private collectors. While going through her mothers things Sophie discovers a copy of a painting called ‘Methoni V’. Having recently heard from an art critic about the Methoni series with the fifth instalment missing and presumed lost.

Sophie embarks on a journey to discover what has happened helped along with a letter from her mother. She visits the village of Methoni in Greece. Once there she meets such wonderful people including Christina. The head of a Greek family that takes Sophie under her wing with offers to feed her regularly and Theo a local fisherman.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved the setting the scenery the descriptive language used about Greece and Greek food. A truly heartwarming debut novel from Cowell.

Having lost her own Mam, I felt that the author wrote from the heart and wrote a very moving tribute.

A great summer read but don’t let that put you off now that the seasons are changing.

Well this was just a delightful escapist read. I was whisked away to idyllic Greece, white sands and blue seas and the food sounded absolutely mouth watering!
This is quite a gentle read although it does deal with some tricky topics including miscarriage, abortion and coercive control but they are not front and centre and I felt were woven superbly into the story. I really felt involved with the characters and sped through it. I loved the story, drama and romance. It is full of joy and all I needed was to be lying on a beach for it to be perfect!
