"Don't worry that you aren't giving people what they want. Give them who you are, and let it be enough"

Oh wow, I'm still collecting my brain which had been blown up to a million pieces from that ending, and I don't know if it's healthy/fair to review this now. Actually, I don't even know how to rate this.

Okay, this book is actually really good and I could see a lot of people enjoying/loving and I could even understand why. Now, my own personal experience, and why this book is a 3 instead of a 4 or a 5 even though that ending was a mind-blowing 5, is that it took FOREVER to get to that part. I've started this book almost a month ago and was about to give up on it on so many occasions, I wasn't even sure I was gonna make to the end before, like, the end of 2020, the only thing that kept me going was the voices of all the fans out there judging me, and the review I was gonna write about it giving it a 2 stars and saying in 3000 characters how slow it was.

It was true, for 2 thirds of the book [for me], the book was a 1 (2 at best) star(s). It draaaaaaagged for so long, and nothing was happening and dear god you don't need 300pages to tell us literally 3 things. I actually had to switch to audio and listen while I was doing other things because for the life of me I couldn't read 3 pages without crying from boredom.

-sighs- It wasn't completely bad, there were like 2 or 3 good moments (speaking of the first 2 thirds, because the last third was A WHOLE GREAT MOMENT) but for the most part it was just redundant. We had two armies besieging the city, Vin playing in the dark, Sazed teaching people but now he's being rebellious and the deepness, maybe? Don't get me wrong, I appreciated the builded up but it just didn't need to GO ON FORVEER.

Now for Elend, for the most part, I didn't mind him. He was an idealist and certainly doing his best, and I was okay with his ways up until I wasn't? and I just need to point out: He goes on and on about giving people a voice but actually he's giving it to 23 men; men who are willing to be bought and bribed and who will give the city for a few titles, in other words, CORRUPT MEN. And dear Elend, who has read like a bezillion book, should know that a corrupt man should not be given any power and that a corrupt government is a CORRUPT GOVERNMENT and he should actually do something and not just wait for them to like turn into better men.

That's the other thing that bothered me, everyone keeps talking about this "right thing". Like the series takes credit for having gray characters when actually every character is a walking moral compass. And Elend just makes it sound easy, to just do (Find) the right thing, which of course you can simply feel. And for a book that goes to great lengths to depict politics, I would've expected at least one "There is no good choice, just the best of many bad ones".

I will give it credit, there were no frustrating moments where character made stupid decisions: like we came close a few times and I prepapred myself for chapters upon chapters of unnecessary agonizing over said stupid decisons, but none came, phew. Some points right there.
Having said alll of the that, the last third was what I actually would've wanted the book to be like. To give you an idea, I read the two thirds up until yesterday, that's like 4 weeks, and the last third, I finished it in one day. Couldn't the book start at chapter 48? With like 5 chapters to sum up all of that 2thirds, instead of like FORTY-EIGHT chapters.

As I said, I was so certain I was gonna give up the book and thus the series but after the end (which I loved a lot, in case you were still confused) I don't know if I should pick up the third book or not.

There is a slowdown in the middle of Sanderson's books that is hard for me to get over. I didn't succeed here.  I spoiled myself and moved on to the last book which was really  great. One day I'll reread the trilogy and read through this book properly.

Ptala jsem se babičky, jak mám vyjádřit, že kniha byla fakt luxusní. Babička se na mě podívala a řekla, ať napíšu "DOBRÉ JAK CYP"... jenže.. to ani zdaleka nestačí.
