Love the way that Towles builds characters, even in a shorter piece like this. The plot didn't really hook me, but I'll overlook it for the chacters that have been created. John Lithgow's reading was lovely.

More Amor Towles?! Yes, please. This short story is every bit as interesting and entertaining as Towles’ longer books. And John Lithgow as narrator could not have been more perfect.

Towles takes us on a journey into the art world with this beautifully and skillfully written novella. It tells the story of a man who goes in search of one thing but ends up finding something more valuable than what he was originally looking for. It is heartwarming, touching, and has the perfect ending. It is immersive and atmospheric, something I love about Towles’ works. In this short novella, Towles’ writing is succinct, not a detail too little or too much; and the result is a beautifully written story that will leave you with all the warm and fuzzy feels at the end. And let me add that John Lithgow did an amazing job narrating the story!
Though the main character is a bit curmudgeonly, he's pretty adorable. It was like a Mr. Scrooge trope, and a good short listen with a great narrator.
