I loved this book! The complex narrative threads and the cast of characters were so good. Sam is relatable in her dealing with her past while trying to figure out her future. She's messy as she deals with her relationships and her trauma, but she's likable still and I can really relate to her trying to decide between the life set out for her and the one she's afraid to want.

i may or may not have shed a tear or two. it's a lot like [b:Sweetbitter|26192646|Sweetbitter|Stephanie Danler|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1448999786l/26192646._SX50_.jpg|43081207] but ... warmer? friendlier? more hopeful? idk. i really enjoyed this.

This book is like a good cocktail: not too sweet, not too much bite, but perfectly balanced. I love a coming-of-age story -- especially a coming-of-disillusionment story -- and THE BARTENDER'S CURE provides one that satisfied my craving without folding to expectations. Samantha is smart and savvy yet vulnerable in the most compelling of ways - quietly. Especially now, after the service industry has suffered through the pandemic and the choppy recovery, Samantha's story is relevant and important. Filled with details about Brooklyn, bartending (including cocktail recipes!), and gender politics, this book is both fun and smart. I'd recommend it especially in the summer, read outdoors with a good drink.
