There have been millions upon millions ways to live this mystery that we call life. There's this susceptible burden added to the already existing existential loneliness once the possibilities are revealed. Under these civilized times of modernity, we have been more normalized, homogenized, globalized, glocalized with no roots to hold on for anyone. Maybe more we tend to integrate and try to form a homogenized culture, there will always be an inherent differences in opinions and formation of counter cultures. There'll always be hippies, supertramps, mystics, philosophers who don't want to play the game of the popular ones.
Demian offers one such possibility of living where Emil Sinclair with his simple narrative takes the readers into his own mind with poetic potentials to make the readers feel; certainly nostalgic. Through the means of loneliness, urges repressed under morality and norms, it's a plain exploration of an adolescent mind with perking compounds of feelings and sensation.
From characterizing the self-reproached, hopeless being cut off from the world and life as envisioned and constrained by the social necessities, Sinclair slowly learns to live with himself and explores the reality of his own dark side of his being with the help of his friend Demian and a few others.
The tale is briefly poignant and heavily Jungian. I suspect the writer must have been recently exposed to the ideas of people like Jung and Nietzsche.
Though the writing is simple and poetic most of the times, the mysticism of the writer-poet gives out a few obscure passages left open for interpretations.
The qualities of his friend Demian is served as the archetype for Emil Sinclair. Demian in itself has some of the archetypal rudiments of Jesus Christ and Friedrich Nietzsche, I feel.
Demian is a story that could inspire readers to take a momentary break from the perpetual toiling that we brought it upon ourselves and, with a brief sigh, to try experiencing the nature and reality that is present in oneself.
Demian is a story of finding home for a brief moment of eternity to dwell within for the rest of the living.
"I was one who seeks, and I still am, but I no longer seek in the stars or in books; I'm beginning to hear the teachings of my blood pulsing within me."

"all I wanted to do was try to live the life that was inside me, trying to get out. why was that so hard"
i liked it but i don’t think i’m the target audience, didn’t resonate with me as much as i maybe expected it to?
The concept of the book is really great, the idea of developing a story based on the growth of a child marked with the Cain signal is absolutely outstanding, though the book Hesse lets the reader live the fears and feelings Sinclair is having and adds a sort of magical character under the name of Demian who is a complete mystery thorough the book.
Really good book
Really good book
