Wonderful!
Beautiful story!! I have no complaints whatsoever. Rapunzel is a beautiful person although I think she is over sheltered due to Gothel and her controlling nature. Gareth is well-suited to be Rapunzel's future mate. I wish these two could have their own sequel.

Out of all the books that I've read in this series, this is my least favorite. It was ok. Just couldn't get into it like I could with the last 5 books.
*Thank you to the Fiction Guild and Thomas Nelson for sending me a finished copy in exchange for an honest review*
If you like fairytale re-imaginings with a dash of adventure, a pinch of romance, and a heaping does of faith, then this is the book for you.
Rapunzel is my favorite of all fairytales and I enjoyed this take on it. Unlike all of the other re-imaginings I've read, Rapunzel does not start out locked in a tower. Nor is she meak. She's brave, strong and wields a knife like nobody's business.
This was my first Melanie Dickerson book and I enjoyed her style of writing. The Golden Braid is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.

A pretty straight forward retelling. Although it was a good book, it was not outstanding. IF you like Rapunzel, this book is a pretty strict retelling. No new elements, except elements of faith and prayer by the main characters.
Not bad, not bad. I enjoy Dickerson's books because they're wholesome and sweet. The characters fit well together and I enjoy delving into the world that's been created. And the preachy stuff doesn't bother me because, well, I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I respect and believe in the same things that she does.
My problem is that the last part of the book seemed to drag on. Rapunzel's time in the tower could have been shortened, and the misunderstanding between Gerek and Rapunzel about their feelings towards one another was not appreciated on my part. I dislike it when a major part of a plot is based off one character not telling another character some special, life-changing secret. It drives me mad and the problem could easily be resolved if people would simply talk to one another.
Oh well. It was a cute story. I think if I ever have daughters who like to read, I will most definitely suggest Dickerson's books because I know that they're stories with characters that have good morals and there's no questionable content.
