A good biography of an amazing man. I'd love it if there was an update about his legacy from the last 20 years, but I guess that's what wikipedia is for.

An endlessly complex and compassionate man on a journey that shows how valuing individual lives can be the first step to systemic change. I feel the book under emphasises the systems building work of partners in health in favour of showing the deep compassion of Paul, but in the end it's this compassion that makes systems building less sterile.

(Audiobook) my initial impression after listening to this book is that Dr. Paul Farmer is a modern day superhero. The kind that knows his own goals and takes the necessary strides to achieve them. He does the seemingly impossible with a can do attitude (apparently his travels and correspondence took an entire team to manage). He laid the groundwork for how the world treats TB (and MDR TB) and AIDS in developing countries. He exemplified just how much one person with an overwhelming passion, perseverance, luck, courage, knowledge, and a medical degree can do to re-shape global health practices.
