I am a bit divided on this book. On the one hand, it was very interesting to read, and I felt sympathy for the characters. It also is very cool that the story itself is based on things that have happened in real life. On the other hand, I feel like there's too many open endings and that the book tried a little too hard to be feminist, which to me was a little too obvious. Over all, I enjoyed this book, but I think there could've been a bit more to it.

Ending was a bit underwhelming compared to the build up in the plot

I'm not sure if this is due to reading it in translation but I just wanted more from this, it really just didn't deliver as much as I'd hoped for. Such a good concept and I liked most of the characters but I still felt at the end that I didn't really know them. Quick read but honestly one of very few books that I do actually think could benefit from being longer.

Truly heartbreaking and full of feminine rage, one of the best reads I have read. Eugenie is a truly fascinating character.

What an incredible read. A real page turner, could hardly put it down. Descriptive, emotive, intreaguing. And a great length. Highly recommend.

The Mad Women's Ball is a historical fiction. Some of the characters in the book are based on real people and the Salpêtrière was a real place where women were mistreated in 19th century Paris.
The short book highlights how women were treated by their peers and by men, in particular, when deemed difficult or "hysterical".
The characters were interesting and well-written. The imaginary is fantastic, made me feel as if I was there. The only thing I felt was off is the book could've actually be a bit longer. We follow these amazing characters and it feels like some characters just had abrupt endings with hardly an explanation of what happened to them.
