This book made me laugh out loud!! I always love the crazy Plum family, and now the addition of Diesel!!! Can't wait for the next one!
Why did the end make me emotional this time? Haha I'm so soft in my advanced age.
funny
mysterious
fast-paced
It was short, funny and in Stephanie typical fashion things were set on fire and she was a hot mess.
We get introduced to a new character, Diesel, who apparently isn’t fully human.

Janet Evanovich's Visions of Sugar Plums is a fun holiday listen. The hubby and I listened to this book on our morning commutes and it was a short one at only 3 discs. Visions of Sugar Plums is a "Between the numbers novel."
I haven't read any of the number novels yet, but I do have them--thanks to my mom. We started with this audio book and found it amusing. It's not as funny as A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, but it is mildly funny.
The main character, Stephanie Plum, is a bounty hunter working through the holidays to catch a defendant, Sandy Claws, who jumped bond. She hasn't had time to get a tree or presents for her New Jersey-based family. One morning she wakes up to a strange, yet hunky man, in her kitchen. He introduces himself as Diesel, but she wonders if he's a killer, burglar, or alien. Turns out he's in town bothering her for a whole other reason--the spirit of Christmas. Will she get the presents she needs for her family, will Diesel help her find the spirit of Christmas, and will she apprehend Mr. Claws?
My favorite parts of this novel involve the "elves" and Plum's Grandma Mazur. They make this novel fun and festive. One of my favorite scenes is when Mazur is searching for her dentures, which are missing, before her "stud muffin" arrives for their date. They eventually find the dentures in a stuffed dinosaur and they are painted with pretty rainbows thanks to a little girl named Mary Alice, Plum niece. I couldn't stop laughing as I imagined my grandmother's dentures in her mouth with rainbows and other brightly colored images on them. Talk about a winning smile.
My husband loves the part where Plum and Diesel enter the toy factory looking for Sandy Claws and find a bunch of "midgets" dressed as elves. Let's just say you shouldn't call elves midgets. . .they get feisty and start a riot. Imagine elves screaming, "Get her!" And jumping up onto a female bounty hunter to regain their respect.
For a light holiday read, this book will fit the bill. I wouldn't have paid full price for the audio book, but it's worth a check out at the library.

Not my favorite Stephanie Plum book. Not sure I will read any of the other in between books based on this one. It was extremely short and I felt like something was missing. To me, it seemed the book just ended, and I still had 120 pages left in the book. This was due to the fact that the book also had part of Book 1 and Book 8...I believe (could have been 9). Just felt so gipped in this one.
Janet Evanovich writes a hilarious holiday tale starring her well-known bounty hunter character, Stephanie Plum, and a supernatural being called Diesel whose paths meet in Stephanie’s kitchen. Stephanie is tracking down a toy maker while the mysterious Diesel has his own agenda. Their tasks collide in the usual Stephanie Plum adventure, rioting, near death experiences, and the loss of yet another car. Although completely off the wall, this story definitely had me laughing out loud at almost every page. The Christmas spirit is definitely still alive in this novella.
This was a short and very fun Steph Plum mystery. I loved how it was centered around Christmas and though it was short, it still had many of the features of a typical Plum mystery. I love Diesel as a character, but was also happy that the other characters were included (Grandma and Lula). The only person missing was Ranger, but I think that would have been too much for this book. The mystery was interesting, but not great. Less interesting that then full novels because there was no real danger, just a missing person.
This was just...dumb. It's supposed to be a fun between-the-numbers novella that features Steph chasing a guy who may or may not be Santa Claus and who's missed his court date. Instead, this was just kind of...bad. I mean, a strange dude appears in Steph's kitchen. She kicks him out and locks the doors. He strolls back in. Rinse and repeat like a dozen times, and it's totally find because he's hot and also maybe supernatural in some way? Uh, no. Get the fuck out of my house and knock on the door like a civilised human being.
Other than that, this was basically a checklist of typical Plum moments. Car blows up? Tick. Lula wears a ridiculous outfit and Steph tells us that she used to be a 'ho? Tick. Grandma Mazur wants to go to the funeral home? Tick. Steph's mother despairs of her children and starts drinking in the kitchen? Tick. Morelli kisses the top of Steph's head a lot? Tick. Steph's dad is disgusted by something that happens at dinner? Tick. Steph gets sent home with leftovers because she's a thirty-something year old woman who doesn't know how to cook? Ding ding ding.
In short, nope.

Okay, so I have "bad" taste. Guess what? I don't give a dime :-D
I like Steph, Diesel and granny with studmuffins and rainbowy teeth :-D
