[read for the human situation: modernity] i feel like this could be SUPER easily adapted to be about some really extra gay drama like...
OTHELLO: lifts 24/7 and claims he fought khloe kardashian in a sephora one time
IAGO: that one twink who u KNOW is talking behind ur back but all ur friends love him
DESDEMONA: literally just wants to go on that vacation to cyprus
CASSIO: always says he'll just have one drink this time
BRABANTIO: ur weird homophobic dad who says things like "the homosexuals"
RODERIGO: sleeps with iago once in a while and has never in his life had any idea what is going on
hmu Movie Man

Not my favorite Shakespeare. Emilia is my favorite character in this play but ‘tis neither here nor there.
WOW!
i honestly feel like i need a lie down after reading this. the last act, especially.
i went into this knowing only that iago is one of the best villains ever, and that a hankerchief with strawberry embroidery would play a big role. and both of these proved true.
but what i loved the most was the small and intimate cast of characters. it was almost claustrophobic, and iago's masterful control dominated all. he was unrelentlessly planning and manipulating. emilia, too, was brilliant. its her who unveiled just how much has been happening behind desdemona's back. and emilia was part of the deception too, though unwillingly. that is what makes it all so painful.
its tragic to the extreme. i loved it

My first time reading Othello. I read it while listening to the full cast performance by Naxos Audiobooks, which was phenomenal. I kept thinking about how amazong a modern broadway rewrite would be. i suppose that sentiment reflects on how great the story is to be able to weather so many years and still be something that we find interesting in today's times.
