Chiiiiile this was the slowest book. But I loved the characters enough to finish. It was a bit predictable at the end and yet she managed to drag it several chapters too many. But based on other reviews, I will read this author again. I’ll keep you posted

not my fav but still a swoony romance w/ magical realism!
I loved this book! The story had so much heart, and an unexpected magical aspect that kept me guessing. Williams had me laughing out loud, and all in my feels at times. The way she describes the subtle beauties in life was dreamy and thoughtful, and I wish I knew a Ms. Della in the real world. Truly a wonderful story about love, and believing in yourself, and found family (with a little bit of voodoo sprinkled in).
The audiobook was a great listen. The two narrators were wonderful, and I had a blast having this story read to me.
In A Love Song for Ricki Wilde, Ricki leaves behind her overbearing family to chase her dreams of opening a flower shop in Harlem. Just when her new life starts to bloom, a mysterious, old-soul musician (Ezra) appears, turning her life upside down. As past and present combine, Ricki finds herself caught in a love story that feels a lot like fate.
Some Favorite Quotes:
"To me, love is like listening to an album. Some people skip to their favorite songs and ignore the rest. Other people listen to the entire album over and over until it's familiar and cherished, and they know every note by heart." - Ms. Della
"But everyone forgets the rest of the saying."
"And what's that?"
"'Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.' Whatever it saw or felt was so good it was worth dying. The cat returns for more." - Ricki
"When you two came up for brunch, he ate a creme donut *with* utensils. That's not a man gifted in the sensual arts." - Ms. Della, about an ex boyfriend

Eccentric, eclectic, flighty—that’s what they called her. But really, she was just a free spirit refusing to be caged by the barriers placed in front of her. Ricki wanted to carve her own path, not walk the one laid out by family obligations.
Y’all… this story was everything. Ricki, worried about what might happen next, still took a giant leap. She was self-assured yet practical, with that I know this is scary, but I’m doing it anyway ‘cause I ain’t no punk energy. Especially when it came to her less-than-stellar dating life, and not so perfect business acumen, she never let setbacks stop her. That strong will and refusal to fail made me fall for Ricki—I saw myself in her determination, her devotion to living life on her own terms.
And then there’s Ezra. A whole vision. Try as he might, nothing—nothing—could keep him from her (Color Purple vibes: “nothing but death could keep me from it!”). Their love began on a shaky half-truth born of fear, but it blossomed into a full-on bouquet of affection. A love that transcended time, defied explanation, and didn’t care about the world’s opinions—because it was theirs.
Absolutely stunning. Beautifully told. A story I’ll be thinking about for a long time. 10/10, highly recommend.
