I love magical realism and this was a good one. I love the writing and humor. It was very good but nowhere near as much as I loved Seven Days in June.

If you are scrolling through reviews because you just finished Seven Days in June and wanted to know if A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is worth reading, the answer is yes; however, not for the reason you think. Seven Days in June is fiery passion and rekindled love, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is a sweet slow build. The readers walk with Ezra and Ricki is not just an introduction to their budding romance, but what it means to be loved and accepted by people that come into your life by chance or by fate.
When rating a book characters and pacing are important to me. I don’t usually read romance, but what brought me back to Tia Williams again is that she writes great lead characters. Especially her male leads (I will never let go of Shane) and Ezra is no different. He is a charming man with his own… you’ll need to read to find out, no spoilers here. There were times when I was questioning whether I wanted to finish because it felt a bit slow in the beginning. But, I think that could be because of my own bias (again this is not Seven Days in June). Tia also gets bonus points for being so thorough in her research for this book. She throws a lot of plant facts, historical events/people, and music in that the reader is also learning along the way.
Now, the magical realism, mysticism however we are describing it, threw me for a loop. In my opinion, it didn’t take away from the story. It was a nice “ahh look at that. it’s a leap year in the book and a leap year in real life moment.”
Overall, a great easy read!
