I was not a fan of this book. I should have been. I love fantasy stories with animal companions, and it sounded like an intriguing world and premise. Then, it took all the things that I love about animal companions and squashed it, the plot holes were wide enough to drive trucks through, the violence was gratuitous and unnecessary, and I didn't like the main character at all. She seemed interesting in the beginning, but I quickly got sick of her as she made stupider and stupider decisions and continually rejected the people and wolves around her who were clearly smarter and more informed than she was and trying to help her. The explicit scenes were well written, but I despised that relationship

from the beginning knowing (because it was predictable) that another relationship was going to be the end game. This dynamic gave the book squicky cheating vibes, which I'm also not a fan of.

So to sum up: this was a book that seemed tailor made to my reading tastes, but I hated the world, the characters, the relationships, the violence, the misuse of dire wolves as companions, and couldn't find the explicit scenes sexy because of all of the above.
