Are you a big fan of Disney's Frozen, but wished it felt more like the love child between Acotar and Fourth Wing? Boy do I have the book for you. And at no extra cost, we will practically scream "hints" about where the plot is headed to prevent any risk of the unexpected.
2.5 stars (Mostly for Stark). I actually don't mind a tropey, predictable book, but you can't just immediately spell out what's going to happen via exposition right upfront and then try to create tension around it(and the spice). The way they wrote it as though there was still surprise to be had felt a little insulting to our intelligence, which ruined any real enjoyment I could still have had. The writing in this felt like a talented author was forced to follow a specific popular outline for the cash grab which is why I think it's rubbing me wrong. It's one thing for a rookie author to have a poorly executed book as they learn, but seemingly talented authors having poorly executed books based on other popular books feels a bit sleazy I guess. Not the worst, but my eyes were rolling. If they didn't try to make it spicy, it would have been a better YA novel.

Ideas were good, execution was mid. It was a little too predictable to the point that I felt like all the characters were just oblivious. But the potential is there and I liked the family dynamics.

DNF for me. The writing? Painful. The main character? Annoying beyond belief. The plot? Just a chaotic mash of tropes. The characters have the depth of a kiddie pool at best. And don’t even get me started on the romance—the chemistry between the main girl and her two love interests is nonexistent. There was one scene with a tattoo that was supposed to be hot and sexy but honestly just made me feel sick. Maybe fine if you’re brand new to the genre, but if you’ve been around the block as a reader—trust me, keep moving.
