I loved this book. It was so fun to read. Just a delight and so refreshing to find a book that is fantasy but not the same exact magic centric fantasy that I usually read. I highly recommend this book and will read more by the Author.

Read only because of book club, way out of my zone. Seems the author tried too hard to be satirical.
This was my very first Terry Pratchett Discworld book. I believe the words of my friend were "it's zany, and it will take you a minute to realize what's going on, but once it clicks, you won't regret going along for the ride." And what a ride it was! I never would have thought that I'd be rooting so hard for a character like Moist von Lipwig. His shenanigans had me in stitches the entire book. He's not a paragon, nor is he a terrible person. He just is, and he's trying to do his best after being saved from dying (very nearly dead, he was!)
For a first-time Discworld entrant, it took me awhile to realize what was going on. I wish I had first read some of the other books that were published first to get a better sense of the world. However, that didn't stop my enjoyment of this one. I was able to start following along pretty quickly. I just felt myself missing out on some clearly pre-established history among some of the other characters.
This book was fun, evenly paced, had some very interesting characters, and brought back some old favorites (which I would have known if I read any other books first). I immediately grabbed the next book in the series, because I had to know what Moist (what a name!) was getting up to next.

This is my favorite Disc world book. Reading it again just cemented it.
