The 4th book in the Expanse series and I still can't get enough! Cibola Burn brings back our consistent cast from the past, new characters and some possibly forgotten characters.

In this book we see James Holden and cre make their way out to a new earth like planet that is already being settled by a group, but the RCE wants to stake clame to the new planet and have brought a group of researchers with the. Right from the start the chaos begins as the locals and RCE are at odds.

For myself having started off really disliking Holden, he has become on of my favorite characters. The hole crew of the Roci are up there for me. The family feel you get with the crew still after 4 books feels so genuine.

Once again, the Expanse delivers on its scope and adrenaline. Every few pages, it’s like someone turns the gas a little higher, or makes the cinch a little tighter. It really is one of the most exciting series I’ve ever read.

Cibola Burn itself, as the 4th installment of this story, bridges the gap well between the 3rd book’s universe-expanding revelation and what I suspect will catapult us into the next arc. One mystery (kinda?) solved and another one knocking on the door.

Very much enjoyed. No, not the best writing or story... But I love the Expanse universe and this book fulfilled some of the thirst for an alien world that I've been aching to see. It also showcased some of the worst (and sadly, believable) aspects of how terrible humans can be when faced with a primitive and volatile situation.

Very good continuation.
Though I had let the series aside for a time, I'm not disappointed by this installment.
It explores the openings left by the previous in interesting ways, and keeps moving forward and setting new expectations and potential paths difficult to foresee, while remaining a self-contained story within that larger scope.
On the characters side, either old or new ones are good. Murtry is a particularily well done one, great in nastiness.
Be he also also puts in perspective the chasms that can exist between people's ethics, and how moral evolution is not necessarily an ascending path but can be driven back to levels thought to buried in history, if the right circumstances arise.

Very enjoyable scaling and conflict in this one but it does leave me wanting to see more from previous POV characters.
