The succubus mythology is so interesting and utilizing it as the premise for a romance novel is genius! I liked how the author committed to the succubus storyline. It was also a lot funnier than I expected it to be. The writing was good, but words like “hey” in a medieval story pulls me out of the book.

Samira is a great heroine; she’s a well written combination of sassy, strong, and vulnerable.
I didn’t particularly like Nicolae. His characterization leans towards the standard 90’s era “hero” that I don’t have much patience for anymore.

Trigger warning for sexual assault. I did not feel that any of these were necessarily needed to advance the storyline, so these scenes really bothered me:
There are three instances of sexual assault. 1. In an intimate encounter between Nicolae and Samira, he puts his fingers inside her. She tells him that it hurts, but he doesn’t stop and she has to forcibly remove his hand. 2. An incubus invades Samira’s dream and starts to force himself on her. 3. One of Nicolae’s friends makes advances on Samira as a “test”. She struggles against him, and it’s Nicolae who stops his friend from doing more. Unbelievably, Nicolae instantly forgives his friend!
