A so-so adaptation of a so-so play yields a poor novel.

There's no mistaking this as a play, with all the action centred on one room, and so much of the exposition through declaratory statements by the characters (often before exiting the "scene"). Necessary reading for the Poirot completist, but avoid otherwise.
