My second Hercule Poirot book (after The Murder of Roger Ackroyd), but my first with Hastings and I have to say I LOVE Hastings and the relationship between Poirot and Hastings (very Holmes/Watson). This book had more than an average number of twists and turns, but I loved watched Poirot uncover it all. Here is a post I saw on the internet that really summed up my feelings:
Me reading any of the Poirot novels: God Hastings youre so f***ing stupid
Me when Poirot explains everything at the end: omg I am Hastings

Keeps you in the hook all the time while reading this book. Even if you could predict the murderer, the reason for that was certainly freshening !

Before reading this I suggest reading those Poirot novels that chronologically precede it in the Poirot canon. It makes certain moments really rather funny. What's more some references made are appreciated all the more for having already been discussed in previous novels and short stories.
