“Some species must not be allowed to get above themselves.”

I SWEAR! I knew at this moment what was going on but *still* i was shocked when it happened

“In case you are wondering, you are beautiful. That’s the one truth Henry told”

I didn’t expect this but damn i was excited

*Spoiler* A YA "thriller" of the worst sort. It was not very thriller or scary as you would guess from the cover ~ "one deadly weekend". A group of over privileged rich kids who rule the school find entertainment in harassing the loners and outcasts (shocking!) and then invite 3 such students for a weekend of "sport hunting". Apparently these upper class snobs are part of some elite secret cult that hunts children for sport (ok, kind of interesting plot twist) however there are only two deaths cited due to the annual hunts going back decades and just a bunch of traumatized teenagers who never spill the beans on a handful of bullies. The story just never really fulfills any expectation of being scary, thrilling or, in the end, a satisfying tale of good over evil. Its just kind of, meh....

I think it's more like a 3.5 rating because it took a while for things to get going. But by the end I was invested in this. Definitely sets itself up for a good storyline for a sequel too.

3.5/5

"I realized, for the first time, that the magic hour is so beautiful because it's the last hour of the day. It's precious because the day is dying."

S.T.A.G.S. reminds me of Harry Potter meets Wild Child but swap magic for murder. I thought that S.T.A.G.S. was a great first book to the series, but enough didn't happen until the last like three chapters.

My complaint is that it was all just a little too obvious. Nothing was a mystery, nothing was subtle, and it was all just a little bit obtuse. I could have done with a little disgression.

Dare to be different.

I was expecting this book to pack a lot more punch but I still found it enjoyable to read.

aghh this was bad.like really cringy writing and unrealistic and underdeveloped characters bad.i should really stop reading everything with a boarding school in it.2/5⭐️ for the interesting concept and the aesthetically pleasing cover?

I really, really enjoyed this book. I read most of it in one sitting!
Set from Greer's point of view it's an ideal teen thriller, mixed with both history and modern technology. This novel had more twists and turns than I knew, constantly changing who you were rooting for, obviously Greer the whole way though, but without spoilers, I wouldn't have guessed who was going to survive the deadly weekend.
I really, really hope that due to the Sherlock Holmes reference at the end, that there will be a follow up novel of Greer's last year at STAGS.
I 100% recommend this to anyone who loves a young adult mystery thriller.
I think M.A. Bennett was able to capture the emotions and fears of the 9 students whilst making it an easy and enjoyable read.

This book had quite a slow start, but one I was about halfway through it was amazing! I knew this book was going to be good, and as soon as we got to Henry's house everything happened! The story went so much deeper than I expected it to, and the ending has left me begging for more! It was such a good cliffhanger just like Sherlock Holmes! I loved the characters and the mystery so much!

Okay, are you looking for an incredible audiobook? This is one you should definitely try! I’ve listened to all three books in the series over the last week and every time I had to stop listening I was heart-broken. The narrator immerses you fully in the story, with cleverly written side jokes for the benefit of the reader and perfectly timed clues. Greer and her friends remind me of Harry, Ron and Hermione and I adore coming back to their friendship group to see how they are dealing with the elusive STAGS cult. The first novel focuses heavily on Greer and her survival, first as a Scholarship pupil at the privileged school and then as one of the hunted at Longcross. The second novel, DOGS, on Greer and her friends as they put on the Isle of Dogs play (filled with hidden clues and puzzles!) and the third, FOXES, on Ty and Henry’s parents and their sinister plans. Overall, this was a brilliantly clever series, effortlessly weaving history with modern puzzles, complete with a brilliant array of characters that you will miss when you finish the books.
