cults. murder. hair gripping, horrifying, a classic. genuinely a delicious read.
upon a reread i somehow managed to enjoy it more than before, while still aware that this is only the weakest of the series. there was a struggle with the writing of the beginning and end, along with bennett sometimes writing as though her readers are stupid, but overall a joy.

Book Review: S.T.A.G.S by M.A. Bennett
.
“When you’re at STAGS, there’s only one thing worse than no money, and that’s the wrong kind of money.”
.
Nine students. Three bloodsports. One deadly weekend.
‘S.T.A.G.S’ is a book about Greer MacDonald who struggles to settle into the sixth form at the exclusive St. Aidan the Great boarding school, known for its privileged pupils as S.T.A.G.S. She has a hard time making friends so when Greer revives a mysterious invitation with three words: huntin’ shootin’ fishin’ and learns it’s from the most popular and wealthy boy at S.T.A.G.S. she is surprised as well as flattered and accepts. Once she joins the other chosen few and discovers theyre alone with no parents around apart from servants and at the mercy of the host. Over the next three days filled with the three bloodsports, Greer realizes the very horrifying truth behind the increasingly dark and twisted intentions of Henry the host.
.
I loved this book as it’s such a unique story that is so different to normal reads, yet still somehow keeps with the thriller genre aspect. I knew that as soon as I started reading this book that I was going to enjoy it and I wasn’t proved wrong at all as I couldn’t stop reading it to find out what happens.
.
There were twists and turns right through to the very end! It is really easy to follow along and a seriously captivating plot that got me hooked into this tale of medieval history, traditional blood sports and the power of long established families.
.
It was all written in Greer’s POV and first person which gave me more of an emotional affect as you get to read Greer’s doubts and feelings first hand. It is a book that easily can be made into a movie! There’s a huge audience of all ages that this book could be directed towards.
.
The ending had me SHOOK as it was left open, ready for a sequel. I feel that it would be fine left as a standalone as it would make the story and ending more powerful. But still can not wait for the sequel to come out!
.
I highly recommend this creative, unique, thrilling novel. It is not typical at all and I really enjoyed reading it. Would definitely read again.

A very quick read and I was able to finish this in one sitting! I think the plot and story overall was super interesting, though I did find it a bit tame to be called a "thriller". Greer, to me, was a likeable main character and I did enjoy seeing her internal conflict in the last bloodsport about what was actually going on.
I would have probably rated this higher if not for the ending, it felt a bit like it was just attached on to warrant another book. I'm not convinced I'll continue with the series as nothing about it gave me any indication it might need a sequel until the last ten pages or so.
Spoiler
I think I would also feel like I was being a paranoid idiot if I thought one of my classmates was actively trying to murder me for just the fun of it.I would have probably rated this higher if not for the ending,
Spoiler
the core three spilling the beans just seemed a supremely stupid and out of character for these three who proved themselves to actually be incredibly intelligent and careful, and

DARK ACADEMIA! Loved the book. The twist ending added points but was also conflictingly unsatisfying.
