Erin never backs down, unless she just doesn't care. It's amazing to see someone on the page who does exactly what she wants, damn any expectations. Steig is just trying to keep up, nut doesn't let his lack of knowledge stop him from playing a big role wherever he's needed. It was fun to see the sudden turn in this relationship given how much they annoyed each other in the previous books. I loved seeing Erin and Steig travel to new realms and work together to move along the necessary path.

Series note: The head bopping in the series is not as disorienting as I've experienced with other books that try going beyond the main characters. Yes, you get the occasional view from someone who is not a main character (or even a main character in the rest of the series), but every snippet, every scene, every point of view seems integral to the story and important to advancing the plot without having to shove the main characters into a dizzying array of new places or long conversations to get new info.

Everything Shelly Laurenston writes is a must buy and this did not disappoint!

I listened to the audio book. I'm really enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. The narrator did a great job. This book had a surprise that I was not expecting.

This was a satisfying conclusion to this series. I have always liked Erin and her instigating ways. She's never satisfied to just let things lie. Here she finally gets to use her powers for the good of everyone, even if her friends hate thinking that she's the sacrificial lamb. In order to stop a goddess it looks like it might be a suicide mission.

Of course Stieg and Erin's relationship was fun to watch develop too. Neither of them was going to admit that they were interested in each other or that the were really starting to care. And Stieg was determined to protect Erin whether she liked it or not.

I enjoyed the quest in this one too. I liked seeing Erin and Stieg's travel through the Nine Realms. They causing plenty of trouble and were pretty much the only ones for the job.

This was fun and was action packed. It was nice to see the end of this arc and I would love to see the author return to this world. :)

I NEED so many more books in this series! The transition from Jace's story to Erin's is like night and day and completely and utterly fantastic. Everything about this series is pure genius and hilariously crafted for pure entertainment!!

Shelly Laurenston is probably one of my all-time favorite authors. I was unsure on this series at first because of it’s unique storyline. Its mythology mixed with paranormal romance is unlike anything I’ve ever read. Combined with Shelly’s typically long character list, it can be a bit of a daunting task when you pick up her book. It’s definitely never a book you can gloss over. You may even want to take some notes (I’m only kind of joking here).

Book one and two of the Call of Crows series introduced us to a group of women who have risen from the ashes. All hand picked because of how they died. Now sisters with an unbreakable bond, they fight together along with other clans in the Greek mythology realm. Well, sometimes they fight each other too. Ok, they fight each other a lot. And it’s hilarious as all Laurenston books tend to be. Focusing on dialogue and action sequences, The Unyielding allows readers to immerse themselves fully in the world.

Erin Amsel is a bitch through and through. She lives to get her kicks from pissing people off. She has no fear and she says what other people don’t want to. Yet she’s also willing to do whatever it takes to win the coming war with her sisters and the other clans. The only person she doesn’t seem to affect is Steig, the viking with the hair trigger switch.

Steig tries not to let the things around him get to him. The key word being “tries”. Except the redheaded crow Erin. She pushes his buttons just being in the same room. Now that everyone knows she’s the key to stop the upcoming war, he’s found himself agreeing to follow her for her own good. She can’t die before she completes her mission and the way she runs her mouth she’ll probably get shot in the head before she can even try. Maybe more than once. Maybe by him.

I loved the budding connection between Erin and Steig from the start. They had a school yard type crush where you just knew they were going to end up together even though they seemingly hated each other. Their constant bickering was fun reading. Steig’s unlikely pet goat made for some interesting dialogue and scenes too. I mean…a pet GOAT. Only in a Laurenston book. The interaction between the multiple clans can be a lot to remember, but each ones plays their own role so it’s important to fully grasp the world building that Laurenston is so good at.

The Unyielding grabs you from the beginning but I do not recommend reading these out of order or as stand alones. There is just way too much information in each book that to pick this up without reading the prior two would leave you lost quickly. The characters are hilarious, the situations they find themselves in unparalleled, and the sex scenes unrivaled. Laurenston has once again delivered a book high on content and which is supremely good. This is a definite must read series!

I give The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston 5 stars!

Definitely didn't need to have read books 1 and 2 to understand this book.
It was ok. Conceptually interesting storyline but didn't take me where I thought it would. Meh. Not bad. The writing was fine, characters were fine. It just wasn't my jam.

Laurenston has another gem on her hands. The humor leaves me laughing and strangers staring at me, the action and bloodshed are extensive, the sex scenes are (*fans self*) hawt, and the romance is somehow still heart-fluttering even amidst the insults, bleeding, burning... general hell surrounding it. She has set up another good pair. Erin Amsel has always been an entertaining character, but she's admirable in this one. But still reckless, infuriating, and starting shit? Oh yes.

Our usual crew was boisterous as always, but it was also exciting to see shifters interwoven in this story. I don't want to give too much away about how they tie into all this, but I have to say their presence in the story left me giddy thinking about what might come next.

My only complaint is that I would like to see some prominent, openly queer characters. Let me be clear, I've never felt that the main characters or the story were homophobic. There is a specific character that I'm hoping will be revealed to be gay, though I'm not expecting it.

I'm not asking for a whole book about a queer couple either (though that would be amazing), but just for visibility in the story. It's getting ridiculous how many characters there are, and still, none of them seem to be LGBT+. That's statistically improbable.

I will say if you haven't read any of the other books in this series then What is wrong with you? *Ahem* I mean, don't start with this one. There is background information, and you can probably keep up enough with the story, but I don't think it can be appreciated as well as it should be without reading the first two books in this series. If you have read the other two, look forward to more fun times.

Laugh out loud funny - craziness, smartassiness, plain fun! And that ending, omg talk about ending in the middle of some major action. Need the next book STAT!
