Just a rehash of the first book. Barely anything new here.
Disclaimer: I haven’t actually read The Magicians. I also didn’t finish watching the television show (not for any particular reason, I just didn’t). So my knowledge on the original storyline is...nonexistent.
With the above in mind, I liked this graphic novel. I always enjoy reading a story narrated by a female lead. Alice is strong, she does what she wants, and she takes charge when necessary. I never questioned her character or her motives. Everything she does feels natural. I feel—with the disclaimer in mind—that her perspective adds to the already established story.
The art style isn’t overly detailed, falling into what I consider traditional comic book art, maybe a bit closer to a comic strip. It is somewhere in the middle. I wasn’t necessarily a fan, but I do think it worked for the story.
All in all, I liked it. It seems to be a one-off, so there probably won’t be a second one (or I’m assuming there won’t be anyway).

A decent graphic adaptation of The Magicians, but it necessarily loses a lot of the thematic passages that made the novel great. The switch to Alice's POV feels pointless. If you've already read the novel, you won't learn anything new about Alice here. There's barely any material that wasn't in the books. Good art though.
If you know the characters from the highly popular TV series or from the novels, this is just about Alice and how she became who she is. As a graphic novel it had the drama and excitement that one would expect even some sex scenes which surprised me. You can count all aspects of jealousy, envy, and anger, present and accounted for as well. This was an entertaining read. I would love to read a graphic novel about The Librarian, Fen, or even Quentin. I hope more are to come...
scratched a real itch for the women in this series to get a fair shake at, idk, being people
I loved the drawings and I loved the background story about Alice! It's just beautifully done and I devoured this book.
As a huge fan of the show this book took me by surprise. Alice is drawn different and a ton younger. Once I got over the characters looking different than I am use to I absolutely enjoyed this. The plot of a back story for her is so enticing in and of itself that it makes you want to keep reading just to find out what will happen.
If you are a fan then this is definitely a must read. It answered so many questions and gave me a better understanding of her as a character by herself.
