✨𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀✨
• gaslighting
• creepy/manipulative kid
• some graphic violence
• chronic illness rep
• feelings of inadequacy
✨ 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 ✨
Kids generally creep me out so this book really upped the nope for me. I myself have feared having a kid that didn’t like me, or not properly bonding. This story is about a mom who fears she has or hasn’t done something right to have a “normal” child, and isn’t that something we’re all afraid of? Meaning up our kids or somehow creating a psychopath.
This book showed us a manipulative little girl who didn’t know how to be manipulative without getting caught. She impulsively goes about trying to dispose of her mother multiple times until the very end.

Very creepy book..
It’s frustrating that Alex doesn’t believe the mom, especially when the teachers were corroborating the actions/behavior
Alex seems like a gaslighter - saying he’s supportive and in love with Suzette but not actually believing her
“The last time Suzette had hoped her daughter was doing something sweet, Suzette opened a small gift box filled with spiders. The long dead ones that were crumbling, but some still twitched, and you were very much alive. not a fun surprise even if Alex joke that Hannah was like a cat bringing her favorite person a precious mouse”
“Sometimes she gazed at it, longing to take a knife to Sunshine’s scalp and remove for find locks. Hanna imagine herself probably wearing the week she made, unbothered by the straight trickle of blood that might dribble down her for head” - holy crap that is so messed up
Why does Hanna open up for Beatrix so easily? Why wouldn’t Hanna draw for her dad or anything like that?
It’s weird how Suzette says she loves Hanna so much and then is like “I have to get her out of the house, I want it to be the two of us again”… she’s confusing.

The book was compelling at many points but the characters were pretty flat. I disliked the ending and wished there was more mystery surrounding Hannah's behavior that didn't have to do with witches.

Characters were infuriating, creepy, and 1000% sus. Great horror aspects, just wish the plot actually *lead* to something. Cliffhanger warning*
Graphic: Mental illness and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Moderate: Chronic illness and Emotional abuse
Minor: Forced institutionalization
