Every character in this book needs therapy. But also I don't like how the author tried making mental illnesses even more alienating by trying to make them scary and as if the people who have them are sick and deserve to be locked away and forgotten about.
The second half of the book just wasn't the vibe I wanted or thought it was going to take at all...

As an adult who never had children, part of me is very happy I made that decision for myself. I definitely feel that way after reading this book! We have heard the expression people are wired differently, but this book brings it to a whole new level. As a teacher, I have worked with children on the Spectrum and some of them are non-verbal. After reading this book, I really wonder what is going on inside some of their heads!

Ewwww, I couldn’t finish this book. The first 1/2 was just a circular story between the mom and daughter setting the stage for the actual story. I’m assuming bc there wasn’t a real story yet and I was at 46%. I mean there was a story forming but it got lost in the back and forth between the mom’s and daughter’s hatred for one another. Also what an inbecile dad. 🤦‍♀️ The eight year old wasn’t creepy she was appalling. Nope. Can’t do appalling 8 year olds who have no redeeming qualities. Didn’t convert me to the horror genre.

This was a good, quick read. Being able to experience Hannah's perspective was an interesting twist. The author did a good job of conveying Suzette's feelings of helplessness. That being said, I wanted to punch Alex in the face!! How blind are you?? Literally everyone, EVERYONE who has contact with your kid is telling you that there is something very wrong with her - including your wife! But you blissfully ignore all of it. The part where he left to go to the gym after Hanna was kicked out of yet another school?! I almost stopped reading right there. I hated Alex - he is a weak, feeble mess.
