I cried off and on throughout this book, but it was still wonderful. And to have it read out loud to me by the great Kirt Graves just made it that much better. The second book in the Green Creek series follows the story of Gordo and Mark. Gordo grew up knowing he was the witch to the Bennett pack and the mate of beta wolf shifter Mark Bennett. He also knows his father is a monster who killed his mother and wants to kill the entire pack. He remembers fiercely how his mother told him not to trust wolves, they don't love you, they only use you. Tragedy after tragedy befalls the pack, and they eventually have to pull up stakes and move across the country. Leaving Gordo behind with promises that they'll come back for him and breaking the hearts of both the witch and the wolf. Mark is able to come back a few times in the intervening years, but it's not enough for Gordo and he rejects Mark as a mate breaking their hearts even further. The story goes back and forth between the past and the present threats to the Bennett pack and how Gordo and Mark have to circle around each other. The hurt is so deep and emotional that it adds a lot of depth to the story. I could feel my heart breaking along with them. The story is told only from Gordo's POV, and you can't help but really side with him most of the story. But then with a clever plot device, we're given Mark's side and I was crying for both of them. It just makes the ending more satisfying. I loved the narration and the way Kirt Graves gives everyone a unique voice that resonates. This is one of my all time favorite series and I would highly recommend it.
It took me a LONG time to finish this one, but it was worth it! Ravensong is an unapologetic story of trauma, love, found family, and fate. I liked the ending of this book more than the ending of Wolfsong, but preferred the beginning of Wolfsong to Ravensong. I’m so excited for the 3rd book to come out in January!

Oh my, I love Gordo, and getting to read from his perspective was a great shift after the first book. Amazing characters, amazing plot, amazing family dynamics…Green Creek is such a cozy setting and Klune’s writing just submerges you instantly. The dialogue is so hilarious and simultaneously so. Real. His prose is almost like poetry at times, and it’s just flawless. Anyway. AMAZING SERIES OMG. Also, Rico is such a good character, I had to pause for a hot second when I thought he was bouta die. I was ready to curse the author for blowing up such a good character and comedic relief lollll
