NOTE: Ravensong does not stand alone. Definitely read [b:Wolfsong|29233804|Wolfsong (Green Creek, #1)|T.J. Klune|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1463862865s/29233804.jpg|49474397] first, and if it has been awhile, I'd suggest doing a reread.

Gordo Livingston is bitter and angry. To truly understand the depth of his anger, you first have to understand his fears and his past. Gordo felt betrayed, abandoned, alone. By his parents, by his pack, by his mate, and he's determined to never let it happen again. There is such a history between Gordo and Mark, as well as the Bennet pack, and the betrayals cut so so deep that Gordo couldn't see past the pain for far too long.
Gordo wasn't the only one that was angry, though. Mark Bennet had plenty of his own when his mate severed ties for good - with the pack and with him - and loneliness drove him to sate his needs elsewhere. Mark wants nothing more than to have his mate back; to have that part of him that was lost to time and circumstance.
Ravensong is a story that feels like it is just beginning. I loved the mix of past and present in the narrative, rather than being entirely linear. It helped to give perspective without bogging me down in the past.
Do they finally find their way? Yes yes YES!!!! But not before tragedy strikes and the future is more uncertain than ever. I would have liked for Mark and Gordo to get a bit more time to revel in each other, but there was so much going on they didn't have time to just be.
I loved Ravensong almost as much as I loved [b:Wolfsong|29233804|Wolfsong (Green Creek, #1)|T.J. Klune|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1463862865s/29233804.jpg|49474397]. The world is richly drawn with complex layers of beauty and evil. I'm looking forward to book 3 and will be waiting with baited breath.

"Pain is a lesson"
Gordo Livingston is bitter and angry. To truly understand the depth of his anger, you first have to understand his fears and his past. Gordo felt betrayed, abandoned, alone. By his parents, by his pack, by his mate, and he's determined to never let it happen again. "I don't believe your promises anymore."
“There’s anger,” he said quietly. “It’s smoke and ash. But underneath, there is still dirt and leaves and rain. Like there always was. Like the first time. I remember it. I never smelled anything like it before. I wanted to consume it. I wanted it rubbed into my skin so it would never leave me. I wanted to sink my teeth into it until your blood filled my mouth."
Ravensong is a story that feels like it is just beginning. I loved the mix of past and present in the narrative, rather than being entirely linear. It helped to give perspective without bogging me down in the past.
"I don't want to lose this. This tether." [...] "It's the only part of you that's ever been mine."
Do they finally find their way? Yes yes YES!!!! But not before tragedy strikes and the future is more uncertain than ever. I would have liked for Mark and Gordo to get a bit more time to revel in each other, but there was so much going on they didn't have time to just be.
May our songs always be heard.

I love how this built off of the first book’s events and even revisited certain moments without things ever feeling repetitive. It explores different characters in the same setting but still expands the story. Really well-done spice too!

There were moments of this book that felt like a 5 star read, but ultimately the story was a little too long and the plot got away from itself. There are also so many characters in this book, and their names are similar enough that I forget who is who except for our main characters and a couple of the more interesting side characters. I loved that this built nicely off the first and introduced more backstory for all the characters and also just the two new main characters (who were side characters in the first novel). The ending also lost me a bit. I'll still read the next book, likely.
