I think I enjoyed this more than the first one. I liked having Carter and Kelly be more fleshed out than they were in the first one, and always good to see more of how other characters feel.
I wish we got more understanding of how magic works--even though the main character is a witch, it feels like he barely knows this. He does magic definitely, but it never seems to be much on his mind.
The timeline confused me a bit--how long before Mark and Gordo reunited?
very egregious use of letting the main antagonist monologue for no reason, and that epilogue was the most plot-hooky thing I've ever seen. Like I assumed it'd be something like that, but it does annoy me a bit to see everyone is actually biologically connected. And why would Robert say all those things to Michelle??

3.5/5

I am enjoying these books, but they are starting to feel a little repetitive. I think some of that is intentional to get you in the mindset of the wolf.

This is Gordo and Marks story and I had a hard time getting invested. I like Gordo, but Mark still seems personality-less.

It's refreshing reading a story with a mid thirties, grumpy protagonist. But If Gordo continues to complain about how old he is, when he is in fact MY AGE, we are going to have problems.
It's not a fantasy series unless someone loses a hand. (Seriously, why does this happen so much?)
