im so conflicted cuz there is something so unique about the way tj klune writes relationships, like i kind of adore some of the dialogue and development between the main characters, the angst, the prose.

but then he throws in these really ineffective attempts at humor that just fall so flat. probably because he dedicated entire side characters (the humans) to basically just comic relief. which, sure, might be fine in theory, but in practice its extremely distracting
like the amount of intense or romantic moments that are ruined by rico/chris/tanner saying some weird unfunny shit? jesus christ


and also, it feels like the author doesnt expect the reader to remember things, and so we’re just beat over the head with the same quotes/moments over and over
in book one it was ox’s dad saying hes gonna get shit, in this it was gordos mom saying that wolves are liars as well as many moments with his dad
and i wouldnt mind it so much if it didnt happen so fucking frequently

im talking a lot of shit but only bc this could have been really good. this writing style does it for me and im sad to see it kinda flop
