I feel like I just kept getting jolted out of the story.
It felt very disjointed. Like a large part of the blurb highlighted the storm and that it was what was affecting the town but I feel like there wasn’t enough of a build up on that. It felt like we went from normal night to boom that persons dead thanks to a monster, without the storm really playing any part.
I struggled with a fair few of the descriptions and found myself having to backtrack a lot to reread passages so I could understand what was even going on.
I also found myself just not really liking the characters very much so I really wasn’t invested in what was happening to them.

I feel like giving it a 4 might be a massive disservice, but I am hoping to read this again and come back to it. I hope one day I can get a physical copy and read it in my head. The audio was absolutely wonderful, but I do think I take away different things between a mental reading and audio reading. Small nuances that the audio readers interpret in certain ways, that I may interpret differently. It is a truly cool experience to read something and have no idea, no sense one way or another, where the author is going with this. Hailey plants trope seeds that bloom into entirely different plants. It’s a rare creative experience to just not know. And I truly LOVED what came of it. Mind-bending is a little overused, but here I am.
