Interessante a história da família Dodd durante a atuação de William Dodd como embaixador dos EUA na Alemanha na época da ascensão de Hitler ao poder.

I tend to struggle with non-fiction books bit found this easier to read for several reasons. The chapters were short and the perspective was uniquely told from the US Ambassador to Germany and his family. It was not an exhaustive list of facts being told, but rather unique stories and letters that laid out the activities and atmosphere of pre-war Germany.
As some have commented, this was quite long which I would agree. While I don’t see a need to dramatically shorten, there were parts that could have been removed without impacting the overall book.
This is an especially great read in the current atmosphere of the US. It was a sad reality that we are doomed to repeat history.

Super interesting “story within the story”. Larson does a really good job of bringing the glamour, color, and horror of Berlin at the time to life. Really reads like a thriller which terrifies me that people really had to live and navigate through it all. Rattles me to think about. First Erik Larson book…I’ll be back for more!
