This is a prequel to book one and oh boy does it pack a punch.

It barrels along. We come into this story knowing the house is haunted so that gives Rita and her families unsuspecting nature even more an edge because they don't know, but oh boy we do.

The creeping sense of Rita's demise and her rejecting her husband and child is chilling and I really wanted poor Ray to just grab them both and drag them away before it was too late. They do ultimately get away but there is a big old twist at the end which I did not see coming which actually lays the pathway perfectly back to the end of book one.

I am SO ready for the next book in the series and I am totally invested in the story of Perron Manor.

I don't really know whether I liked or disliked this book honestly. The first 50% to 60% of the book was so boring and I really wanted to DNF it but I continued on because I'm really interested in reading Purgatory ( Book 3) in the Haunted Series because it's a direct sequel of Perron Manor (Book 1) but I'm glad I decided to finish it because the last 30% of the book was action packed as well as gory and creepy. There is a huge and shocking reveal at the end which you have to know to enjoy Book 3 and it really shocked me but in a good way.
Overall I would say this was an average read for me and it dragged a lot in the first half. I would have loved it much more if it had been a novella. I think for me horror works best in novella form because I love plot driven stories more and novellas are much faster to get to the meat of the story.
Really excited to read Book 3 soon and finally see what happens after the conclusion of Book 1 (Perron Manor) especially now knowing the big reveal at the end of Book 2.

P.S. - I don't like the narration of the audiobook at all. The narrator's attempt at believable female voices made me cringe so hard. It sounded obnoxious and so over the top. It's the same complaint I had with Perron Manor. I would have much liked it if he had kept it simple and not tried to imitate how he thinks a woman generally speaks. After rolling my eyes after every dialogue by Rita or Chloe for about 50% of the book I put down the audio and read it digitally which was a much enjoyable experience. Would not recommend the audiobooks.
