much more than a monster story! — I liked this one, but didn’t love it as much as others did. I think I was expecting a monster horror story but this is not that, and that’s okay! I just went in thinking it was lol

More of a thriller, in my opinion.

BAD.

Unsatisfying ending. Actually pissed me off. I’m a bit fuming right now ngl. Should’ve DNF, but I kept reading just to figure out the mystery with this damn creature and Heather. Book ends and I’m left feeling ????????? Is there a sequel to this book???? As a stand alone, I don’t believe this is the book yall are hyping up.

If this is a series tho, don’t tell me. I’m not reading it. Or you can link me a YouTube summary. I may watch it.

I overall really enjoyed this book, mainly because of Samanthas narrating which made me really feel for her.
It could’ve been shortened and there was A LOT of unnecessary fillers which made me skip some pages through out. But it kept me on edge the whole time with an uncomfortable feeling to my stomach because of the eery setting in the woods and the crazy story. Absolutely recommend as an cozy horror read.

I couldn't put this book down because I felt desperate to know what would happen next and how it would end. However, the ending really disappointed me. There were too many questions left unanswered.
[spoiler alert]
One question in particular that bothered me was the lack of knowledge surrounding Heather: why wasn't she mentioned in the news story? Why was the focus solely on Samantha and her mother, when an orphaned girl would get just as much attention, at least a brief mention? The fact that the group had no information for Samantha regarding her sister was completely unrealistic and left far too many questions. I can forgive not knowing exactly what type of creature was stalking them, even though that is another major question, but I've read plenty of eco-horror books that leave the origin or species vague, so I don't always need concrete answers when it comes to that.
Overall, the ending was a big enough disappointment that it brought my rating for this book down to a 3/5, when it otherwise may have been closer to 4.5/5.
