DID NOT FINISH

DNF. I don't know why this wasn't for me. I liked the first story in the collection and had high hopes. But my attention span is low right now, and if it doesn't keep my interest, I'm ditching it.

Funny short stories

Was able to listen to screwball on audible, the narrator was perfect fir that story. Read the other stories, loved the transition to the theme of parenting in this collection. He really captures the absurdities of life perfectly.

My first time reading a collection of short stories, only because my husband bought it after hearing about it on NPR. The first story, Learning the Ropes, was adorable and hilarious and set the bar high, but the remaining stories mostly fell short. The final story, Expert Parenting Tips, was silly but inspiring - I love the final lines, “Take your child by the hand. Arm her to the teeth. Tell her you love her. Open the door.” Contextually it’s about fighting monsters but in a more interpretive sense, it’s about parenting in general.

Overall this was fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it, but maybe I’m just a curmudgeon.

A humorous collection of short stories. Some of them are quite strange, but they’re all really smart and creative. There are lines in this book that are so bizarre, but make so much sense at the same time. As happens with collections, there were some stories I loved and made me laugh out loud, and others I didn’t like much at all—so 3 stars it is
