I had high hopes for this book as the plot sounded AMAZING - a sci-fi horror based around a deadly space virus.
The plot certainly met my expectations and was action packed and fast-paced. I was on the edge of my seat and parts were truly terrifying! I have never been so scared or shocked by a book.
I will say that the let down was the lack in character development and complexity. I wish the characters had been complex and well-rounded - instead they felt very flat and two-dimensional. This meant I hardly cared for them, which made it hard for me to truly engage with the book. I will say I did show some emotion during certain parts, but I believe this could have been a glorious five-star read had the characters been better than they were.
The lack of character development also meant that I found it quite hard to differentiate between them - their personalities mostly consisted of just their names. This made the constant switch up of perspectives quite confusing at times, as it took me a minute to figure out who we were following. However, Thea’s character became stronger by the end, since we mostly followed her throughout the book.
Overall, this was a very fast read and the plot was executed brilliantly. I only hope we get some character development in the second book, but I’m not holding my breath.

I don’t know if maybe my expectations were too high, or because the idea of space zombies has already been done many times before, but Contagion was overall a pretty disappointing book. I love horror sci-fi, and I was expecting a lot more scary moments. Unfortunately, I don't remember a single scene that really scared me.
As I said above, space zombies are a plot topic that has been explored across many different media and it’s hard to find a place among all of them. Contagion lacks original elements that could have made this read more unique and entertaining. The characters also felt very generic despite the author’s efforts to create compelling backstories.
I wasn’t necessarily bored reading it, and the story overall is pretty good, but nothing memorable came out of it. The ending ruined it for me, I was expecting a standalone with a satisfying conclusion, not a duology with a political subplot. I don’t feel the need to continue the series and probably won’t.

Really frickin good. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The author did a really good job hinting at things but revealing everything at the end. I usually guess whats going to happen but this book actually surprised me!

A good YA thriller. A little longer than it needed to be. Became a little repetitive at first, also so unnecessary to run to the ship, run back to their ship, then back to the main ship? I didn’t find a single character relatable or like able. The writing seemed a bit childish, reactions to authority seemed unrealistic.
Love the space zombies
