(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
I immediately loved the feeling of this SF world in Made of Stars. Look, I heard Bonnie and Clyde in space and started running, ok? If you love not only rebellions, outlaws, and a bit of trouble, but also those characters who never wanted to be heroes? Then Made of Stars is for you. A huge theme, reflected throughout the book, is this idea of when we will speak up. Often it's not easy, it's more than difficult to speak up against a system of power. We risk ourselves, our homes, our families.
But at the end of the day, we have to, because if we don't then who are we? Made of Stars examines exactly who we become, and who we don't. In many ways, it's a story about being in a pressure cooker wondering when enough is enough. When that spark comes that ignites the fuse. Seeing through different character's eyes allows us to truly witness the cracks in the making. When all the things we've seen begin to haunt us.

A found family that fights for their lives in space? Sign me up. A Bonnie and Clyde retelling complete with their obsessive love, skillful heists and a healthy dose of chaos? Obviously, I am in. Girls with knives? *swoon*
I have heard so much about this rag tag team, and it was incredible to finally meet all of them and get inside their heads. While I did not recognize all of the Taylor Swift references, I did spot two which is enough to make me proud. As a feminist, I really did have a soft spot for Ava making her way through the galaxy by manipulating men — as a way to close the wage gap, even if it is morally gray.
Jenna Voris' debut reads exactly as the book I imagined it would be - witty, wild & wonderful. You can see how much she loves YA, and this book is sure to entertain all ages and get new YA readers hooked on finding new worlds to crawl into and explore.
