I liked the way this book was laid out. I liked the flashbacks to explain why some things were happening. It was difficult to see some of the characters as either hero or villain. They all seemed both to me, and that made the story more believable as well as harder to see any clear lines. I grew up in a city called Sterling Heights. My high school was named after it. So I kept thinking back to people in high school that seemed to epitomize the characters in the book.
I feel like it is a book that EVERY parent should read, and have their kids read. And yet, I also read that it’s on a banned list, which is ridiculous to me.
I would read it again to see if there were things I missed the first time, which is kind of ironic as that is a reaction to any tragedy…thinking back for all the signs that were overlooked.

All that said, this book could be VERY triggering for some people.

this was a very hard one. this one reminds me so much of saving noah by lucinda berry; you feel so much for peter, but you know how terrible of an action he did. he is a child but also a monster. this was very compelling and thought provoking.

It was long and a bit slow. But good plot, well written, and an awesome ending.
