Bought this in German when the price was lowered and I received an iTunes info-mail (but bought it at Thalia). Forgot to put it on my TBR/owned. And just checked it after reading an answer on my favourite GR-group "What's the Name of That Book???" - message 10.
Lately I was rather lazy, both writing reviews and reading less. If there is a review I will first write it in German, as I will read the German translation, German being my first language.

Trigger warning:
- detailed killings, grisly deaths, burning, torture (medieval)
- child / teen abuse
- child / teen bullying
- rape, but not too detailed
- racism
So, quite a lot, I was thinking of a short list "everything", but that is not correct, no incest, no BDSM.

As I do not want to spoil it, I will not go into details, but while there are quite a few story lines, and a lot of people, it all weaves a nice tapestry later in the book and till the end.
Lots of complicated twists, with people often reacting to things they misunderstood or do not know everything there is to know and setting a chain of events in motion which leads to disaster or simply to a wrong path. Secrets and lies contribute to that.

This is no serial-killer page-turner, and for me there was way too much family-background, which I would normally skip and subtracted a star. But for some reason it works very well, there is no black-and-white, quite a few people have faults but even the bad ones do good most of the time, and there is no simple "killing for greed and profit" or "killing for the fun of killing".

What makes is book for me exceptional, is the built-up to the final disaster-scene at the party.
Quite a lot scenes and reasons for actions are very well written and feel real for me.

The currently newest book from the series. Normally I tend to read books from a series in order, years ago I saw the TV-Movie for [b:The Ice Princess|7058405|The Ice Princess (Patrik Hedström, #1)|Camilla Läckberg|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347445122l/7058405._SX50_.jpg|1395190], bought the book and read it. Own a few others, but have so far not read any of them.

If you can stomach the grisly deaths, this is highly recommended by me, and I will certainly read more. The review is based on the German translation, the english may differ, I hope not.

didn't even get to 20 pages - i don't know if it's the translation or the original writing that is so bland and watery
