slow-paced

It's an interesting idea that quickly crashes and burns. It needed 30 editors

Annoying main characters

It took me a while to get into this, but eventually, you are drawn into the orbit of these characters and the secrets/lies underpinning the society. Definitely interested in reading the sequel

Not interested in immature characters; very slow plot.

A fun fantasy/dark-academia read - definitely not perfect, but I loved that the characters were more grown up and not all of the heroic type that would instantly die to save everyone, I'm so tired of this trope

3.5 stars

Love the plot and the science magic mechanics and the world building.

But the dialog, characterization, sex scenes, and general tone leaned a little too into pulp for me. Pulp not in the sense of the old pulp novels but more like fanfic tumblr AU OC pulp.
