For the first time ever, I’m rating a book not necessarily on how much I enjoyed reading it. Is it ever enjoyable taking a good long look in the mirror? What I did enjoy was the authors candor and humor on topic after topic. And there were ALOT of topics covered. There’s an entire chapter about how maybe Obama wasn’t the greatest advocate for the Black community during his presidency

This is a must read. Whether you are an American, making an effort to break your notions about race, whether you are immigrant living in America, trying to understand the dynamics of race in the country or you are any other person - this book is a huge resource to grow and learn.

Not only has this book helped me shed some of my misconceptions, but I am also well on my way to understanding the current political and socioeconomic conditions of this country. It is essential we break through the myth spouted by the media and confront the deep rooted white supremacy parading in front of our eyes everyday.

The most important take away for me was more of a validation of some theories I have been working on for myself.

Very well written, good research, coherently established arguments and full of passion.

This was very good, though Fleming is so smart that my poor dumbass brain took a while to catch up to her.

Standout chapters to me were "Listen to Black Women" and "On Racial Stupidity in the Obama Era".

This book was recommended by my Do the work book. I learned a lot and appreciate the way the author talks. It’s real and it’s fact based. It’s entertaining and it’s holding you accountable. I recommend for people who want to learn about how to be anti-racist for real and not be performative.

3½, but rounded up to 4.

Incredibly important and massively well-written, this is a great introduction to critical race theory and the structures of racism in the United States, and should be required reading for everyone.
