Considering that Murderbot isn't human, it's surprisingly relatable. It's just a fun, entertaining, compelling character, and I love it. I'm also glad to see Mensa and the rest of the crew from book one back in this book. And that was a good way to emphasize the strong emotional journey and growth that Murderbot has been through over the course of this series so far. For all the violence that follows my favorite SecUnit around, this book is remarkably wholesome. It has a happy ending - not just "immediate problems are solved" but an actual satisfying happy ending. Which Murderbot definitely deserves. I think this was originally supposed to be the last book in the series, which I would believe because this is a solid ending point. But I'm glad there's more because I want to read more.

This is probably my favorite of the novellas so far (which seems to be a fairly unpopular opinion).

I love Murderbot's solo adventures a lot, but I really enjoyed getting to see It grow and use what It's learned and apply it to those It cares about. The novella had a slightly different feel to it than the previous ones, but this one was centered more on Murderbot's interactions with the humans we met all the way back in All Systems Red.

Definitely looking forward to the next one!

Probably second to All Systems Red as my favorite Murderbot book (so far).

Seeing the cast of book 1 was great! (Especially Dr Mensah, whom I adore to an unwarranted degree!) I really liked seeing how much Murderbot has changed and grown in their time apart from the Preservation crew and seeing them see this and be happy made me happy (getting a bit meta I know). This novella made me feel cosy (when I wasn't tense because of the predicament they were in!) and I am looking forward to the novel.
