4.5

4.5! I really enjoyed this introduction to such a fascinating topic. The book is divided into two, a section solely focused on the suffragette women who fought for their rights and a section dedicated to anti-suffrage and the women who opposed the vote, which allowed the reader to understand the different perspectives. There were a few brilliant quotes which I highlighted and wrote notes on, it was provocative and powerful, something that I will likely reread in the future.

EDIT [15.07.22]: I've recently encountered information regarding the suffragette movement and its lack of inclusivity. As an intersectional feminist, I want to uplift women who champion the feminist movement but I cannot overlook the unconscious and conscious racism rooted within this journey. The feminists named in this book advocated for white women and white women only. While we cannot change history, it is important to recognise this and hold modern white feminists to a standard in which they are inclusive and intersectional and acknowledge the truth of the matter.
