DEAR LORD… why did this book DRAG on and then the last 50 pages were soooo good… ugh I had such a hard time getting through this and I think it’s because the writing is so good, but doesn’t have a good flow. The world building and detail is so intricate that it takes longer to seep in, at least for me. Same thing happened when I tried to read Shadow and Bone. Such detailed and intricate world building that it bogged down my brain and made me feel like I was trudging through reading. Anyway. The rest of the book was great and I am actually looking forward to the next one!

Although being a separate book, it follows the same pattern as "The Folk of Air" series. A good one for those who missed Elfhame.

4.5 is more like it! A wonderful reintroduction back into the world of Elfhame, with fun characters and a mystery riddled plot that doesn’t stop. The chapters were too long for my taste and it did drag a bit, but I had a lot of fun reading this and can’t wait for Prisoners Throne!!!

2.5 | This unfortunately does not hold a candle to The Cruel Prince trilogy. When 90% of a story takes place while a trope is traveling over a vast area, it needs to have stronger world building and characters than this does.
