Decent enough, though I think the Demigod Files was far better. The stories are short and for the most part ok, though I just didn't like them as much.
First go is Luke's diary. And can I say, even though it's Luke's diary, the story feels more like it revolves around Thalia? It kind of highlights how she got her shield essentially. It does focus a bit on foreshadowing Luke's future, and shows the meeting with Annabeth again though it isn't much different than what we've already seen.
Then we get IMO the best one, the Staff of Hermes, mainly because I'm just glad to have things back to Percy's narrative, and to see him and Annabeth working together as they always half. I'm kind of raising my eyebrow over the idea of Annabeth being obsessed with a one month anniversary- it doesn't seem her style. A year, yes, a month? Ehhh, doesn't seem like her. Fairly straightforward and basic story. Loved George and Martha and the foreshadowing the lockdown of Olympus, and the date for Percy and Annabeth.
Quest for Buford is . . . it's probably my least favorite. I don't know why really- it's not bad, but it's just not really that great. It seems kind of just meh. I mean, a table ran away because it wasn't polished right? It's silly in a way even pushing it for the PJ/HoO universe, and I don't know. Just lacks somehow for me.
Then there's Son of Magic written by the author's son. Admittedly, I think his son shows some great talent- dad better be watching out! I liked getting some information on how the Mist works. It was a bit clunky and not quite smooth flowing in some spots, but overall I thought it was quite well done and answered some nice questions that Rick hadn't answered himself, so I enjoyed it.

I liked this book. The stories were great and I also enjoyed the drawings and 'riddles'.
Rick's son Haley wrote the last story in TDD and although Haley knows how to write, I wasn't interested in reading about an unknown demigod that had fought for Kronos. I would have preferred another story about one of the 7 heroes or another known demigod from PJO/HoO.

Got teary-eyed by Luke's diary entry. Especially when he found Annabeth. Also got teary-eyed by Percy and Annabeth's early dating days. Reminded me of the ending to The Mark of Athena. Rick Riordan why oh why!

Re-reading in 2023. Still so sad about Luke :(

I probably would have given this 4 stars if it wasn't for the last story...
I loved loved loved loved "Son of Magic", the short story in this book by Haley Riordan. Although I did enjoy the rest of the book, my favorite part was, hands down, reading "Son of Magic". I can't wait to read more by Haley.
