Reading about Luke as a kid makes me sad. :(

Haha these maenads that just wanna party all night long are so funny. Party or DIE!

The Diary of Luke Castellan: I *always* want more Thalia Grace (where is our book about the hunters, Rick? Where?), it’s very necessary backstory to PJO, I still don’t get Luke apologists, the story itself is interesting 4/5

Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes: pretty fun short story, very in-character for Percy, I’m a little confused at Annabeth being the kind of person who wants to celebrate a 1-month anniversary, enjoyed it more than other Percy short stories

Leo Valdez and the Quest for Buford: Jason has no personality, how did I like him so much when I first read HoO (I still think he’s over-hated but… what was that Rick?), Leo has *big* incel energy here which I hate, Piper is surprisingly fun, the story is a little weird, it’s not a fun little quest as the Percy short stories are, it makes no sense that some things never show up in the actual books’ plot again (“They come every year around the holidays” then where are they again… ever?) 2.5/5

Son of Magic: This short story was written by Rick’s son who I believe was around 16 when he wrote this and his writing style is very fun, I just didn’t find the characters particularly compelling. It was fun and interesting to read and learn some background to the PJO magic system though. My one question is why Hazel was written to be a daughter of Pluto and not of Hecate, I think that would’ve been a much better storyline but oh well 3/5

I was surprised to realize I’ve never actually read this companion to the Heroes of Olympus series before, and it was just as good of an addition as The Demigod Files was to the Percy Jackson books. My favorite story in this was the Staff of Hermes- I just can’t resist an adorable Percabeth adventure - but the insights into Luke Castellan’s time on the run with Thalia, and the story about Leo, Jason and Piper were great, and they were nice little Easter eggs to this world. I also think it’s really amazing that Rick included a story his own son wrote in this book, and I actually thought his son’s writing was impressive for a 16-year-old (the age he was when he wrote it.) So I enjoyed this, and I can’t believe I never read it before now.

3.5 ⭐️

4⭐️I'll eat up any percabeth I can get. "Percy Jackson and the staff of Hermes" was chef kiss.
