Anteeksiantaminen on hyvin kiusallista."

Imagine a peculiar blend of a female Calvin (yes, Calvin & Hobbes), the film “My Life as a Dog” and the moomintrolls and you can begin to appreciate the style and atmosphere of this sweet little memoir. Tove Jansson is writing about her childhood in Finland by using a series of short stories – each recalling an episode from her home or from the country side. A whimsical style blending reality and imagination allows one to experience life with her artistic parents and nonsensical outings into nature. Jansson's imagination wrestles with harsh reality so sometimes it all seems very dreamlike. It is a delightful memoir and probably the best book I have read that brings forward the world from a young girl’s perspective (it seems like she is about 5-7 – I cannot quite tell). It made me smile quite a bit. It would be interesting to read more about Tove Jansson's life and her works beyond the Moomintroll books (delightful by the way) as many of her adult novels/stories have gained traction due to recent translations. She also seems to have been an inspiring and eccentric artist well worth exploring. This book is the perfect gateway if you would like to linger in the dreams and memories of a very imaginative and delightful human being! Many wild adventures await you....

This site has some great picture of the Jansson family and definitely would add to your experience in case you decide to read her memoir: http://tovejansson.com/eng/perhe.html
