cool !! i really liked the letter writing format of this book. each of the characters show so much concern for one another and the other people in their lives. although it was nice getting to know alexyevne and dyevushkin, their relationship still confused me quite a bit. i can understand that they live in the same apartment complex but how old are they? and are they romantically involved or does dyevushkin view himself as some kind of father figure for alexyevna?? if romance is involved.. then their situation reminds me of something like a "could've been" relationship.

also.. i love the last line of this novel. many times throughout the book, dyevushkin expresses his struggle to be confident in his writing style and breaks down one last time in his final letter to her.

"Besides, I am acquiring a literary style.... Oh, my own, what does style matter, now? I don't know, now, what I am writing. I don't know at all, I don't know and I don't read it over and I don't improve the style. I write only to write, only to go on writing to you ... my darling, my own, my Varinka .... "
