Loved it
It is a great story of the strength of children when put in horrible situations.
I am very happy that it was not a true story, but I have heard of people selling
children during troubled times. Very sad indeed.

I was rather disappointed in this book. I loved her first novel sooo much. I was very excited to read something set during the time of the Spanish Flu. This story seemed disjointed to me. It was an ongoing, agonizing tale that dragged on in my opinion. It just followed one main character and story and I only finished it because I just needed some resolution. I didn’t feel like there was a good flow to the book and I felt there were a lot of details about nothing important. Will read other books of her because I loved “What She Left Behind”. I wouldn’t recommend this one though.

Wow, just wow. This was such an incredible book. The time frame of the 1918 Spanish Flu, the stories of immigrants and prejudice, the love and tenacity of 13 uear old Pia Lange is incredible. I couldn't put this book down. Loved it. I can't think of another literary character I've ever hated more during a book than Nurse Wallis aka Bernice Groves.

DID NOT FINISH: 35%

I just didn’t enjoy the dark events of the book. I liked the descriptions in the beginning , but not the supernatural elements. I think she could have written a better, less melodramatic story.
