A good book overall and I would have gave it 4 stars, but I have to critique it for one reason. Politics. Nobody cares.

It's Charlie Brooker, so of course it's good, but this book isn't anything more than the sum of its parts: it's just all of his old columns. Which is great, but a lot of them are newspegged, so it has less of an impact than it would have simply reading his column at the time. I'm happy to support this guy's work, though. Brooker's fantastic, if for nothing else, because he threw out the tired old "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic" cliche and replaced it with the far more entertaining "trying to fart a crashing plane back into the sky" metaphor.

As I said, pop culture articles don't stand the test of time, especially when it's in reference to British culture and I haven't lived there for over a decade. Brooker's a funny writer, but the subject matter is dated (4-5 years) and it was a real struggle to stay engaged. Best read hot off the press or not at all.

A really good collection of columns which will make you laugh.

Nice selection of articles, felt a bit repetitive and much reading solely this book, would probably have been better to read the articles randomly

Got to page 197 (41%) and decided I'm done with it. Although Brooker is a clever, funny, and very entertaining writer, a couple of different factors prevented me from finishing this book.
This is not the kind of book you want to get on an eReader - it's a collection of articles, and I imagine the best way to experience it would be to flip through it, as it's not organised in any particular way. This lack of organisation and its nature as a collection of many different pieces means that the topic changes from essay to essay, so I found I couldn't read much of it in one go.
Many of these articles are also relics of the time - I'm thinking in particular of the essays about political situations that have passed - and as time goes on, depreciate in relevance.
Finally, if you have read lots of Brooker's articles before at their original date of publication then this book is probs not for you.
