A very good thriller. I didn’t love the ending, but it was surprising, so that was good. The audiobook was extremely well done.
This book had me on the edge of my seat! I wasn't prepared for that ending with the twist and turns. This was a slow read for me, I read a few books in between this one but it was still brilliant.

A good book for people who like thrillers, though I thought the first 200 pages were quite boring and could have been shortened by 50-75 pages. I really liked the eclipse imagery and the fact that they’re eclipse chasers; that plot was unique to this book and I thought it was beautiful. Parts of the narrative were far-fetched but if you can suspend your disbelief, it’s an entertaining read.
I started and finished it, meaning it couldn't have been too terrible, but I don't think it's one I'd recommend. I felt like the first 100 pages were very heavy-handed "something bad happened! It was SO BAD. Wait till you hear how BAD IT WAS. We never knew our lives WOULD CHANGE."
There are two twists - one in the falling action on the book, and one on the last page. The former was delightfully surprising, the latter fell flat.
I'd bet money this will be opted for a movie at some point, though. Has a great screenplay vibe...

I find that thrillers often feel gimmicky to me, because the story is often told in a back-and-forth way (either between characters or time periods) that unnecessarily obscures the plot in order to maximize the suspense. It's rare that I find the characters interesting enough or the writing compelling enough to finish without losing patience.
This book jumps between characters and back and forth between events fifteen years apart, but I didn't find myself tempted to skip ahead or look up spoilers.
The storyline I found least compelling was Kit's present day trek to view an eclipse on some-unpronounceable-island. It just seemed like very little happened for so many words.
I stayed up night reading this, and found myself reading even after the baby finished his middle-of-the-night feeds. And yet I feared getting to the end because I suspected, as is the way with most of these kinds of books, that I would end up totally disappointed by at least one of the characters.
Sure enough, the last twist leads to a girl power/all men are evil conclusion that I found a bit trite. Oh well, still a decent book.

This book was very clever, with such a good twist! It was a bit slow to start off with, but I'm glad I carried on reading it, I couldn't put it down! Would definitely recommend.
Meh... I found this book disappointing. It moved way too slow to keep my interest. I almost stopped reading on several occasions. There were some nice twists in the back half of the book, but I didn't really care about the characters.
Very skilled writing, very good book, but not the genre I should be reading on a regular basis. It made me feel squeamish and depressed.
I read this book over the course of a day and a half. I love a good psychological mystery and this was perfect. Well-paced story, fascinating scientific and cultural information and interesting, complex characters - the kind of book I'll be quick to pass along to others.
